From Survival Mode to Sustainable Growth: A Personal Story

Hi Reader,

It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. As some of you know, I’ve just returned from maternity leave, embracing the beautiful chaos that comes with welcoming a new little human into the world.

And wow, what a journey it’s been.

When Systems Became My Lifeline

This maternity leave has reminded me of one of the most valuable lessons from my previous business life – long before my coaching practice began. Years ago, when I was running our family-owned insurance agency with my mom, I learned the transformative power of documentation. What started as an afterthought became the backbone of our entire operation.

The Turning Point

I still remember the exact moment everything changed. I was managing our agency while simultaneously covering for a sick employee, handling a client crisis, and trying to prepare for an important carrier meeting. Mind you, our phone was ringing off the hook, so sales were clearly not our problem. My only thought at the time was: “This isn’t sustainable. We need to systematize everything – not just because we have to, but because we deserve better than this.” Over the next several months, I built comprehensive SOPs and training manuals that transformed everything. What once required constant oversight became smooth, predictable operations. What once lived only in our heads became accessible to everyone.

Full Circle Moment

Now, as a new mother, I’m experiencing the value of those lessons at an entirely new level. During these precious early months with my baby, I’ve reflected deeply on how those systems created in our insurance agency gave us something priceless – the ability to step away without everything falling apart. The confidence that comes with knowing your business can function without your constant presence. I’ve watched too many business owners sacrifice precious life moments because they’ve built businesses that depend entirely on them. I did it myself before we implemented proper documentation at our agency.

Bringing This Expertise to You

After experiencing this transformation firsthand in our family business—and hearing from many of my clients about their struggles with similar challenges—I’m thrilled to announce two new done-for-you services:

1. Custom SOP Manuals
A comprehensive documentation of your business processes, built using the exact frameworks that transformed our family insurance agency from chaotic to controlled.

2. Tailor-made Training & Onboarding Manuals
Step-by-step resources that transform new hires into confident team members without consuming all your time and energy – the same systems that allowed our agency staff to operate confidently even during our absences.

These aren’t just documents. They’re freedom tickets for business owners who want to:

  • Take genuine time off without constant check-ins
  • Scale beyond the limitations of their personal bandwidth
  • Create real business value that exists outside their own expertise

Why This Matters More Than You Think

Before my maternity leave, I thought documentation was important based on my experience with our agency. Now I know it’s essential—not just for business success, but for personal wellbeing. Because the truth is, as business owners, we can’t pour from an empty cup. We need systems that support us through all of life’s seasons—whether that’s welcoming a new baby, caring for aging parents, dealing with health challenges, or simply wanting to take a real vacation.

Final Thought

I’ve missed connecting with all of you during my time away. I’m returning to work with renewed purpose and clarity about what truly matters—both in business and life. The systems that saved our family business years ago are more relevant to me now than ever before. As a mother and business owner, I’ve come to appreciate that the most valuable gift we can give ourselves isn’t working harder – it’s building frameworks that allow us the freedom to be present where we’re needed most.

Here’s to building businesses that support our whole lives,

Hi Reader, Lately, I’ve been having a lot of conversations with business owners who feel stuck and like they just can't break through to the next level. Their first thought is usually, “I just need to hire a manager to take things off my plate.” But here’s the thing: hiring a manager doesn’t always solve the root issue. When I joined my family’s insurance agency, it had already been running for 10 years. On paper, things looked great — steady revenue, loyal clients, and a team that worked...

Crisis management cycle

Hi Reader, When I was in the trenches of running our family insurance agency, there was a moment when I sat in my car outside the office and couldn’t bring myself to go inside. Not because of any single crisis, but because I knew another day of putting out fires was waiting for me. Sound familiar? The Reactive Leadership Trap When I took over the agency, my focus was pure survival: streamline processes, build a team, get things running efficiently. I told myself I’d work on the bigger picture...

employees need AI training

Hi Reader, I've been having conversations with business owners and leaders across various industries lately, and they're all seeing the same troubling pattern: AI is making their quality and productivity problems worse, not better. Employees are taking AI's first response without providing proper context. They're accepting solutions without understanding the underlying logic. Teams are skipping the critical thinking steps that ensure quality deliverables—the very skills that separate good...
